Responsibilities
Act as the Chief Executive Officer of the Association with responsibility and
authority to fulfill the duties as shall be determined by the Board of Directors and Association bylaws and required to conduct the business of the Association.
- Serve as chief spokesperson for Urban Education and the Association.
- Serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.
- Facilitate the creation of an annual strategic plan with measurable goals for the Association.
- Advocate the Association’s positions as a registered lobbyist with legislator, testify on proposed legislation both during the legislative session and at various times throughout the year, and participate in meetings with the Indiana Department of Education and other agencies and organizations as the representative of the Association.
- Coordinate research that aligns with lobbying efforts.
- Work directly and closely with the hired lobbyist of the Association.
- Issue positional statements on behalf of the Association on current education issues/topics/trends.
- Provide brief topical information for membership related to lobbying efforts.
- Foster relationships with and promote cooperation with other education organizations such as IAPSS, IASB, IASBO, IASP, ISRSA, IGSSA, etc., colleges and universities, and other agencies to promote urban education and lobbying efforts including but not limited to state legislators, business organizations, Indiana Department of Education, etc.
- Build and maintain member relationships and be available to participate in the occasional administrative team meeting, Board of Education meeting, and serve as a resource to the Association member.
- Regularly communicate educational and legislative updates to member schools.
- In consultation with the Association president, prepare for meetings of the Board of Directors and full Association by drafting meeting agendas, organizing supportive documentation, and arranging details of time, location, guest speakers, accommodations, logistics, etc.
- Prepare a schedule of meetings with the general membership in consultation with the Board of Directors.
- Maintain all Association financials including bank accounts (credits and debits), investments, and prepare a Treasurer’s Report for each membership meeting in cooperation with the Association Treasurer.
- With assistance from a CPA firm, file yearly tax forms with the Indiana Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service for the Association to continue to function as a registered non-profit organization.
- With assistance from a web page design company, maintain and update a necessary the Association’s web site.
- Maintain a social media presence supporting and promoting Association values and member accomplishments.
- Seek sponsorships as directed by the Board of Directors.
- Establish an office and perform all administrative tasks for the Association to function as a professional business entity.
- Perform all duties and responsibilities as directed by the Board of Directors of the Association.
