POSITION TITLE:                                         Bus Paraprofessional

STARTING RATE:                               $13.00

 

WORK RELATIONSHIPS:                            Reports to Director of Transportation

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:                               

Responsible for assisting in the Transportation of students and students with special needs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works collaboratively with driver to supervise all students while boarding, riding, or departing the school bus.  Ensures all students  are safely placed in custody of teachers, principals, or parents at the beginning or end of each route.

 

Provides a safe environment for students while on the bus.

Assists in development of a written evacuation plan.  Assists during all evacuations.

               

Assists in the development of a written assigned seating chart.

Assists in monitoring students and traffic, ensuring an all clear before the bus is moved and as students cross in front of the bus, at  schools and at home locations.

 

 Positions self in middle or rear of bus when not providing assistance to students.

 Maintains knowledge of how to secure all wheelchair seatbelts, car seats, and adaptive equipment to ensure students are secure in their seats.  Works collaboratively with driver to ensure students are safely secured in seats.

 

Ensures that all students have departed the bus at the end of each run while at the school.  Immediately reports any student who is still on the bus to the driver, dispatcher, safety manager, and director.

 

Knows the assigned route and willingly assists any driver.

 

Knows how to operate all equipment on the bus including the two (2) way radio in the event of an emergency.

 

Assists the driver in backing the bus by disembarking and guiding driver from the ground.

  

Provides written records of students as needed.  Provides written records of student discipline referrals using proper conduct referral forms.  All referral forms must be co-signed by the driver to verify a violation.

 

Performs related work as directed by the Director of Transportation or assigned designee.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:                          

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by a paraprofessional to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Para-professionals are required to regularly stand, sit, and reach with hands and arms.  Employee is required to walk, climb,

and stoop.  Employee must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Must successfully complete a physical performance test and an on-board performance evaluation each year. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, employee is exposed to outside weather conditions.  Employee is occasionally exposed to fumes and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

               

QUALIFICATIONS:                                

Must have use of hands, arms, feet, legs, eyes, and ears.  Be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Must be able to get to and from the bus each AM and PM

Must be available any time during minimum shift requirement from 6-9am, and 1:45-5pm.  Reports outside the Vehicle Maintenance Facility, must be on time, and approved by the Director of Transportation. 

 

EDUCATION:

High School diploma, GED, or related experience and training is preferred.
