POSITION SUMMARY:
Candidate must have the ability to understand and accept the Mission of the South Bend Community School Corporation in reference to the education of English Learners (ELs). Candidate must have basic knowledge of second language acquisition and its terminology. Candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Two (2) years of effective experience working with Limited English Proficient (LEP) students
- Thorough and complete knowledge of WIDA ELD and Model Performance Indicators for grades 5-8
- An explicit understanding of effective ELD instructional practices and Second Language Acquisition research
- Bachelor’s degree in English or related field
- Prefer certified teachers or candidates working on teacher certification
- Prefer ENL License
- Advanced knowledge of written and spoken English
- Participates in required professional development, during the school year and summer

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direct ELD support 100% of the school day to Limited English Proficient (LEP) students (levels 1- 4) and Fluent English Proficient (FEP) students in year one and two monitoring (MO1 & MO2) using a push-in, pull-out, or sheltered immersion model of instruction. Structured Immersion model requires candidate to teach ENL English and EL Lab classes to 6th - 8th grade.
- Assists and supports instructional staff in the implementation of ELD instruction at the building level by sharing proven instructional strategies and materials
- Works with the Bilingual Education Specialist and the Bilingual English Literacy Specialist to manage, analyze and review each LEP student’s assessment data to ensure the highest level of English language development in listening, speaking, reading and writing
- Works with the Bilingual Services team to identify materials and supplies to support instruction, professional development, and parent involvement
- Works directly with identified LEP students (Levels 1.0-4.9) and students in year one and two of monitoring and provides ELD support 100% of the teaching day
- Demonstrates and models exemplary ELD practices
- Provides leadership for ELD across the school community
- Helps strengthen family and school ties by engaging families in English language development opportunities
- Participates in building level and Bilingual Services Department professional development opportunities and meetings
