The South Bend Empowerment Zone is a set of five schools in the South Bend Community School Corporation that serves roughly 2,200 PK-8 grade students on the West Side of South Bend . In terms of demographics, the Empowerment Zone is:

The Empowerment Zone is dedicated to dramatically improving student achievement and doing whatever it takes to realize that goal. We work to ensure that traditionally underserved students receive the support and resources they need to be successful.

 

Position Description

 

EL Intervention Teachers will provide direct service and support to elementary school students identified as English Language Learners. Intervention will focus on the students’ success in core instruction by providing foundational English literacy instruction and language development. EL Intervention Teachers will engage in pull-out and push-in intervention services, including blended learning opportunities and systematic explicit instruction.

Additional Qualities

  • Partner with families to support students & regularly communicate student progress to families.
  • Passion for accelerating children’s literacy and learning
  • Ability to provide consistency in the direct support to students while adaptable when modifications or change is warranted
  • Five years of effective classroom teaching experience, as demonstrated by student data
  • Experience working with English Language Learners, ENL certification preferred ($5,000 stipend)
  • Ability to organize work and follow through of scheduling and delivering student intervention 

Immediate Supervisor: Principal

  

Hours:  Hours follow the typical teacher schedule, which is reporting 30 minutes before the start of the student school day and remaining 15 minutes after the end of the student school day.

 

Compensation  Starting at $44,800 

 

Anticipated Start Date:  July 2022

 

Physical Demands:

 

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other technologies and office equipment, sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time; kneeling; bending at the waist; lifting; pushing; pulling and carrying equipment, supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds; repetitive hand movement and fine coordination to use a computer keyboard; emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and to keep all aspects of the job under control; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read; prepare and assure the accuracy of documents.
