Language Arts – Read 180 Teacher

This candidate will be qualified to teach multiple Language Arts courses.

Job Description:       

• An appropriate candidate will display professionalism and the ability to work cooperatively with others. 
• Candidate must be highly skilled in classroom management and student engagement skills. 
• Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, and use relevant technology to support instruction.
• Candidate must be able to skillfully use differentiated instructional strategies to meet individual learning styles, and demonstrate experience implementing innovative instructional programs/practices.
• Skillfully use cooperative learning strategies to engage all students in learning. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
• Use data to guide instruction and be able to work collaboratively in a Professional Learning Community.
•  Prepare lesson plans based on the Indiana State Standards, record grades using the Corporation electronic grade book (Power School), maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and attendance, accurately and completely as required by law, corporation policies and school regulations, and assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of the Language Arts curriculum. 
• Participate in the 8-Step Process of instruction and remediation/enrichment. Candidate must have knowledge of and experience using software or on-line tools to remediate, enrich, and increase student skill levels.
• Prepare successfully students for End of Course Assessment (ECA).
• Follows Individual Educational Plan, Behavior Support Plan and 504 Plan.
• Candidate must be able to effectively communicate with students and parents, and be willing to contact parents to keep them fully informed of their student’s progress.
• Must have knowledge of and demonstrated ability to create a positive and professional relationship with students and the ability to create a welcoming, focused, and productive learning environment where students feel comfortable seeking assistance.
• Must be willing to implement various school and Corporation initiatives, including but not limited to, Culturally Responsive-Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, Character Education, and participate in Professional Communities. 

Qualifications:

• Must hold a valid License/Certification in Language Arts and be Highly Qualified. 
• A Masters Degree or higher is preferred.
• Previous experience in an urban school setting preferred. 
• Experience teaching varying levels and areas of English Arts courses required. 
• A candidate must not have had a recommendation for Probation Assistance on their most recent evaluation.
• Must possess the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with students, faculty and administration.

COMPENSATION: 

Starting salary in the Empowerment Zone is the highest in the St. Joseph County area, and will be $44,880 for SY22-23. Compensation increases with experience, and education. For example, a teacher with 4 years of experience can earn $46,614, a teacher with 8 years of experience can earn $51,816. 

There are also several stipends that staff are eligible for:

• ENL certified teachers who are using their certification in classroom teaching receive a $5,000 stipend
• Teachers with 12 or more years of experience receive a $5,000 stipend

Moreover, there are additional stipends for staff that participate on various teacher leadership teams.
